One of our most prestigious recent projects, St Clouds, in 23 mature acres at Hatfield Heath, on the Hertfordshire-Essex border, features:
- six bedrooms
- five bathrooms
- an attached leisure complex
- garage space for four cars
- screen fencing.
It’s also highly energy-efficient. As well as clean, modern design, the property boasts a biomass boiler to heat the house and swimming pool, which helps to earn it a level 3 sustainable home rating.
We used the innovative Pride ‘Unilin’ panel roof system for the first time here. Strong, light, all-in-one, insulated sections made construction quicker and easier – and did away with the need for rafters, creating a fully useable attic space.
Collins and Beckett were recommended by PHD Associates, the project architects. We were chosen for our track record of delivering quality products.
Managing Director Mike Beckett says, “St Clouds is a dream project, and we always welcome anything different with a bit of a challenge! It was a project on a grand scale, at 1,179sq m, with six bedrooms and five bathrooms – and 800 lighting circuits. And there are no roof trusses, just a full attic space.
“The inside out approach was a challenge, too. All the interior design features had to be incorporated, so the infrastructure had to support the design. It’s usually the other way round.
“But the greatest achievement here is just how environmentally friendly everything is, from the insulation – twice as much as building regs require – to the under-floor heating throughout. The bio-mass boiler heating the house means the energy efficiency rating achieved the highest level possible. A 12,000-litre rainwater harvester also stores all the water needed for the garden.”
